What is your favourite Leonard Cohen song and why?
I like in particular the song 'Famous Blue Raincoat'. The words are haunting, and the tune is catchy. It often seems to play over and over in my head after I have heard it. It is a song that can be done equally well by female artists as by male ones. For example, Tori Amos has put out a good rendition of it.
It is really hard to pick a favourite, because Leonard Cohen has written and recorded so many songs. However, a few other songs of his that I particularly like are "Everybody Knows', 'First We Take Manhattan', 'Tower of Song' and 'Anthem'.

'Hallelujah'...one of the most haunting/amazing songs I've ever heard. Jeff Buckley did an amazing cover of it. 'Everybody Knows' is another one that I like a lot.

My favorite Leonard Cohen song of the moment is "There for You" on his latest album "Dear Heather". It seems a little dark , regretful and even bitter, like many love songs, but it touches me in a deeper place that knows "I" am not here for my own ephemeral satisfaction but that I am here for You, for God, for and as true nature and that every movement, breath, step i take is a manifestion of This alone.
In my experience "There for You" expresses the deepest contentment, surrender, awe and wakefulness.
Even more than all these words, as with many of Leonard's songs, I just feel strangely and inexplicibly moved and am grateful for that.
