You will need to remove all the gas from the mower because more than likely your gas and oil have now mixed. You need to take the (sponge) that covers the carburator out and run some water and soap through it and let it dry. Also your carburator itself may need to be cleaned because oil and gas and other junk may have clogged in there. Good luck.

How far down do you wish to take it. You are having an issue of it trying to burn the oil vs. the gas, plus your air intake may have more oil in it, not allowing the air to flow threw for proper combustion. You can do a few different things. First, whip out as much oil as possible, clean the air filter, or replace it. Remember to check and add oil to replace what you have lost when you tipped it. You can add a gas additive to help out with the sputtering or just let it burn threw there by itself. An octane booster such as sold in a auto supply house or motorcycle shop might just be the answer.

Let the engine run a while and periodically clean the spark plug..... I've had many a person do the same thing....
Next time, keep the spark plug up in the air. This keeps gas or oil from seeping out.

Just sit it upright and let it burn out the oil. Take off the air cleaner and spray the carb with carb cleaner. Maybe take out the spark plug and spray it too after it cools.

change the spark plug and let it set over night. that way the oil will go back to the crankcase. and while you have the plug out crank it over a few times to clear the cylinder.
