The mold should take at least 6 or 7 coats of latex to form a reliable mold. During the last coat of latex, imbed cheesecloth into the mold. Saturate the cheesecloth with the final layer of latex, making sure that the cheesecloth is pressed firmly into all nooks and crannys. Let dry for 24 hours, then remove. Although still flexible, the cheesecloth will firm the mold considerably. Place your mold in a bed of sand to avoid distortions from the weight of the plaster during your pour. If the dry sand is not supportive enough, dampen it slightly, this should be more than firm enough.
