Wouldn't this theory hold due to the proof right HERE on Yahoo! answers? Isn't it obvious when a snot nosed teenager is answering/asking a question? Aren't they becoming even more lazy (due to them obviously asking very specific questions about their projects that they are procrastinating)? Shouldn't they start doing something useful instead of worshipping worthless pieces like MTV vjays, rap stars, reality tv stars, etc.. and start contributing to this world in one way or another? They pretty much are the biggest losers, don't you agree?

I don't believe that the generation is becoming more stupid, maybe as you suggested they are becoming more lazy due to the accessibility of information. In the same sense it may seem that the generation is getting more stupid due the accessibility of their ideas, that some like you deem stupid. Prior to the boom of the Internet how wide spread was information people viewed to be stupid. Now thanks to the web stupidity spreads like wildfire and some people gain a tiny celebrity status behind it.

In some cultures this stereotype may be true to a certain extent. When people don't have to worry about where their next meal is coming from they have the time for other pusuits. The younger generations in America are becoming more book smart, but whether they are smarter overall is still up for debate. Many young people work very hard; many don't. This is usually based on the way they were brought up. Many parents don't spend much time with their children so that they can work and improve their own standing in life. They often pay others to raise their children. Ideally, there is a balance. Realistically, few come close to achieving it. All the generations are connected, and whether younger people are dumb or lazy would be a reflection on their predecessors.

Wow! I'm offended. To say that each generation is getting more stupid is about the most ridiculous thing I've read! Did you learn Spanish and fractions in second grade? Schools cover much more material at earlier ages than ever before. I'm a college student now, and I'm amazed at how much more they're learning in elementary than when I was there. It's only been ten years since I was there.

Each generation may be getting lazier, but that's just because we're developing technology that allows us to be lazy. Your accusations only cover a small percentage of the younger population. Most of us don't "worship" vjays, rap stars, etc.

Open your eyes! The older generations raised us. You should blame yourself. Children learn what they are taught. Your laziness and lack of ability to discipline is shown through your own kids. Don't blame them if they turn out any other way than what you'd like.

Oh, and if you wanna talk about stupid, I could make at least ten grammatical corrections to your question.

I do agree and I agree fervently. Not only are the children of today more lazy, they actually expect good things to happen to them and are indignant when they do not. I Think a factor to this is the lack of parenting in our society. I see absolutely nothing wrong with both parents working, but then, when then are home, these parents are so overly tired that there is just no energy to spare arguing, and instead they give in to whatever the child wants. That's my piece!

so, your view on the younger generation is degenerated? I'm sorry to hear that. But I'm sure your parents and their generation thought something similar of you. But then again, what was your generation up to at the time? With technology making our world seem smaller, the idea of being formal and the time nessecary to give a simple thank you is just not there anymore. This generation is forced to grow up quicker than you realize and is left to fix and improve what the last generations have left behind. There is a world of information for each and everyone one of us to learn, and that takes more work than you realize, because it's just simply not enough to go to work after you finish with school. It may seem like we "worship" MTV and allow ourselves distractions, but our future isn't quite so certain with the CFC's eating up our atmosphere, and fossil fuels creating hurricanes. There is no time to be nice about this, there is only time to fix it, or allow ourselves to escape it.

I kind of agree with you. Because Americas kids are fat and lazy they are obsessed with the Internet, TV and video games their minds are mush and I think the parents, teacher, officials are to blame for it . There isn't anything for children to get into anymore and nobody has the time or even cares.

From the time kids are babies parents sit them in front of the TV instead of a book or even with a live person.

What's really sad is that this is the generation that is going to take over someday soon......... Pathetic isn't it?!

i wouldn't say stupid. I would say drive. Every generation has less drive than the preceding generation. IT IS NOT BECAUSE OF VIDEO GAMES OR MTV. STOP WHINING, I'M SORRY YOU DIDN'T HAVE THEM! It is because parenting styles have changed. Parents are more apt to suppress their children with aderol and such. Parents dint want to deal with their kids anymore. There is a huge generational gap which leaves every generation with a detached and useless mind about them. Its hilarious that you criticize teenagers for being on Yahoo when you are on yahoo right now. Every second you spend on Yahoo is a second away from your children. How long did it take you to write this. Its not our fault.........Its yours

I don't they are are stupid or have less to offer. I think they are becoming more self-absorbed. And telling them they are losers certainly does not help. Some of their short-comings do have to fall upon those who raised them, maybe the right examples have not been shown to them. Most families have 2 parents that work because they can't afford not to, so who is raising the kids? Maybe you yourself could be a big brother??? (Or big sister). Set a good example and teach someone. Don't belittle.

i cant agree with your statement for one reason, the ratio of teens is higher today then it was years ago.. you still have the same percent of procrastinating unmotivated teens, but with the large population it seems like more. i will grand you that rudeness has increased but that has a lot to do with the parents and their generation. parents allow children a lot more freedom then years ago so the guidance isn't there.go sit in a juvenile court room for a few hours you'll be surprised!
