One of my best friends did this, the child is 6 now, and is the joy of her life. I t makes her smile to say her name and see her as a living, healthy, happy child. Not the sickly childhood friend she remembers from years ago. I think it is a beautiful sentiment.

I would maybe use the dead friends name as a middle name for the child or maybe use the friends middle name for the first name of the child. I know personally that if i called my son/daughter "chad" (a friend that died) it would stir up alot of emotions everytime i said the name. But if you feel comfortable saying it all the time go for it.

My best friend from middle school was killed in a car accident and I have put some serious thought into naming one of my children after her. It is a way to remember and honor our loved ones. My mother named me after my great grand mother who passed away when my mother was four months pregnant. I'm glad to carry on a name of someone who was loved and appreciated even though I didn't know her.

Yes. Later in life you will be able to tell your child how special the name is to you and why.

Our son (due Monday) will be named after two of our close, childhood friends who have passed. They were always there for us and we can't think of a better way to honor them.

I know someone who did that. I guess it would be alright. As for me personally, I wouldn't. It's just a thing.
