Assuming a two term president leaves office at the end of his second term and another president serves one term. Can the former president run for re-election again, as this possible third term is not consecutive?

presidents used to be able to serve up to 4 terms in office but a law was passed by congress that the president can only now serve 2 terms. Once a president has served 2 terms they can not run for another term. This does not matter if there has been another president since that last president who served 2 terms. The president who has already served 2 terms can never serve another even if that President quit office half way through the 2nd term

The easy answer like everyone has said is the constitution. To answer your second question, the constitution prohibits two terms for life, not just whether they are consecutive or not.

Here's the part of the 22nd amendment that applies (I left out the part which excluded FDR - before him there was NO limitation besides the voters).
Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

So basically, the most any person can serve is 2 elected terms plus the portion of the term they served if they were VP when the pres left office and they assumed it for 2 years or less (so no more than 10 years ever).

Hello there! What prevents a former two-term president from running again is the constitution. The Constitution prevents the president from staying in office for too long because if this happens the president can have too much power. Also, if this happens we might be living like Cuba because their president never went out of office and so now he can control people and can take away our rights which could mean that us persons would be slaves!

the first sentence of the XXII change to the structure states "no one will be elected to the workplace of the President more desirable than two times". So, to respond to your question properly, purely Presidents who've served one time period purely would nicely be elected as President back. Do you imagine Jimmy Carter would attempt back ?
