Keeping a wild animal is not always a wise idea. To tame a wild animal is difficult to do. Where do you live? Do you live in the U.S. or somewhere else? My suggestion to you is to contact a local vet and ask him or her that question. They are just as knowledgeable about those things than other people. Or you could contact the Game Commissioner and ask him or her.
In most states you have to have a certain amount of permits and licenses to keep a wild animal. Best make sure first, before you get too attached to the racoon.

Good luck and I hope I was some what helpful.

The previous answers are correct. You would have to check the local laws from where you live. An easy way to find out would be to call your local wildlife sanctuary and ask them if raccoons are protected in your area (require a license to keep) or if you would be able to keep one as a pet. I am SURE they will discourage you from keeping a wild animal as a pet, but they could at least tell you if it is legal in your area. Good luck !

I guess that it partly depends on what state you live in, some states have stricter animal cruelty laws. Although if it isn't being fed or watered, or if it is being abused then it shouldn't be legal at all. So call your local Animal Shelter and ask them and they can do a check and either take it and release it or at least get things straightened out.

You have to check with your local county by-laws or state laws. It is actually illegal in many counties and states to keep a raccoon or any wild mammal. Call the local city hall or state wildlife office.

Whether it is legal or not it is WRONG! Wild animals do not belong in cages or kept as pets!

As with birds: birds are meant to fly, yet we keep them in cages -duh, what is up with people!

Maybe, but how would you feel being caged up by raccoons?

I think it would depend on where you live. You'd have to check your local bylaws

Legal? I don't think there are rules against it.

Well since you asked I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
