Anything is more valuable if there is only one of it, so if you have the last paper dollar ever made, it's quite valuable. If there only two of anything, each item, if in equal condition, is of equal value.

However, if you have a dollar and your friend does not, but there are lots of dollars, it is worth a dollar because it is defined to be a dollar. And if both of you have a dollar, you each have a dollar, no more.
