Your hard drive has nothing to do with the fact that your speakers don't work. You might wanna try checking your sound card make sure its installed correctly, if it's an integrated one, make sure it's not disabled. Check your audio drivers, you might wanna update them or roll them back. Make sure your speakers are connected correctly and that they are not busted. Also make sure the volume on your speakers and your PC are turned up.
Right Click on My Computer, go to properties, hardware, device manager and check the audio, make sure they are enabled and make sure the drivers are ok.

verify all connections. If pc is useless No lighting fixtures in any respect then it will be a fuse both on your Plug or Psu. verify your plug first, If it truly is superb then it will be your PSU. they're useful less expensive yet make effective you get the right wattage. 450- 500 ect. also they're uncomplicated to larger healthy. purely 4 screws and some thing is disconnecting and reconnecting the cabled the cables contained in the computer. in case you get someone to attempt this it would purely take at maximum 10 minutes.

Who did the install, the geek squad? By new hard drive, do you mean you replaced the old one with a new one, and everything was reinstalled? If so, have whoever installed it fix it by downloading the proper drivers and installing them.

your sound card drivers are not installed. if you are using the built in sound card on your motherboard then you have to check the cd that comes with the board and install all the drivers not only the sound card but the agp, network, and other mobo specific drivers. then you can maximize the use of your pc. if you are using a pci sound card then you have to check the brandname and check the latest drivers for it on the internet. even xp can't detect all the drivers for thousand of add in cards out there.

First thing I'd try is reinstalling the sound drivers that probably came with your sound card or sound system. If you have no drivers, search the internet for the make and model of your sound card. You sould be able to download the proper drivers.
