Well, different guitars can produce different sounds. My Epiphone Les Paul sounds quite different from this awesome Fender Strat my music teacher has.
Maybe they use a cheaper guitar to practice, and a really nice one to perform with. Also some guitars are just better for certain types of music. You probably wouldnt want to play a country song on a Flying V guitar, it would just seem out of place. Sometimes people just get new guitars, and wish to keep their old ones to hold on to the memories.
Personally, I only own one electric and one acoustic guitar, but it can be understandable to have multiple guitars.

Well, if you are just sitting at home, it's probably because you haven't found one you like yet, or you just like to collect them for investment purposes. If you are a performer, then it is because you need more than one if something goes wrong, like a string breaks, or it gets knocked over. Mostly, all the guitar players I know have a different axe for a different style song. It is also a bit of a prestige thing that borders on an addiction when you can afford it! Having them on your wall & in your room is like having a piece of fine art to study, whether you play or not!

yes there is a reason.
first off, there is an acoustic/ electric difference. which is obvious.
but having more than one guitar of the same type, can also be just as big a difference.
tone, tuning, pickups, strings, there are a lot of reasons.

Different types or brands of electric guitars have different sounds, and also they can be sort of a collectors item. To be able to get nicer, cooler, rarer guitars.

they are different in every way...in either sound looks or the way they feel when you play them. if you are a true musician then you will understand the meaning of having multiple guitars...
