You have to die in the name of God to be a martyr, not in the name of peace. Nobody on your list qualifies. Granted, Jesus is a close one, but; his death was acording to prohecy. No death no fulfillment of the prohecies. Joan of Arc would be a martyr. John the Baptist would be a martyr. Jesus would not be a martyr. Mother Theresa was a nice answer though she didn't die for God or Peace, she just died. I don't tink there has ever been a case of somebody actually dying for peace or God that it didn't involve being killed. Think car crash, starvation, something like that and no name comes up. Rosa Parks doesn'y count either, she stood for equality not peace, as did Martin Luther King Jr. The closest i can come and it is quite a stretch is General George F. Patton. He believed that the object of the military was to secure the peace. He died on his way home after being relieved of command after the war. He wasn't killed and he never changed his stance on the role of the military in society. So tat is as close as you get. Still, that doesn't make him a martyr.

Mother Theresa died of old age. Rosa Parks did not sit down for equality; she was just tired. At least that's what she told my boyfriend when he told her how proud he was of her. Julian Lennon wanted peace, so he said in his songs, but he wasn't very peaceful in real life, so I don't think he was a martyr.

John Lennon was a martyr? The man who harshly criticized the US and then came here to live because he didn't want to pay high taxes in the UK? Get real. Lennon was not killed for his beliefs, but by a crazy guy who wanted notoriety.

Mother Theresa died of old age. There are many, many people who have championed humanitarian causes and spoken for peace and lived to old age ... dying of old age just doesn't get the sensationalist headlines.
