I always had fun with the "most likely" series.
Most likely to try out for "so you think you can dance,"
most likely to have a breakfast cereal/action figure named after her...
most likely to be spotted on youtube.com...
most likely to become ruler of a small island nation...
most likely to be mistaken for a (duck, nuclear physicist...)
But the ones which got the biggest laughs were generated by the kids themselves. Maybe invite them in on the fun! good luck

In every class there is a great bulk of students that, on a daily basis, provides the teacher with some sanity. They come to school almost every day, if not every day; they do their work in class with genuine interest and effort and the listen to what the teacher says and try to follow directions. For these students I suggest that each receive a "Sanity Award" certifying that without them the treacher may, in fact, have lost his or her sanity.

Other awards or titles might be in the form or "Resolution" awards similar to New Year's resolutions such as:

1. The "I'll never be late to class again " award perhaps given to students who seem to be late to class frequently.
2. The "I'll never forget my homework again" award to those whom you think appropriate.

A teacher can look at the class and come up with others along these lines.

Some of the suggested awards are not good because they essentially criticize the student and this, of course, should be avoided. But, knowing the students, a teacher can use non-critical titles such as "cell phone queen' or king for some one who uses a cell phone or fashion award for someone who is recognized as very fashionable in dress; a (name your school)"Jedi-knight for someone, male or female who has a high interest in rockets, space travel of the movie Star Wars; a "Prince of sports rhetoric" or princess, for someone who is talking much about or involved in sports; etc.

Search and find their interest and and make it a school award. Everyone gets an award.

Lisa,
Having been around 7th & 8th graders for over 35 years, I think that they would appreciate some serious awards from the heart more than being funny or cute with them. Most kids this age appreciate adults that show respect and honor for them rather than adukts that try to entertain them by being funny. Try a couple this year and check their response.

Use this as a learning experience and have the 7th graders make up 8th grade awards and 8th graders make up 7th grade awards. Let them vote on it (pending teacher approval) and make it something that these grades can be involved with every year.

I can't really think of things on top of my head. Work from the students. Think of things that you attribute to a characteristic of them. Phones for talkers. Straight jackets for crazy people.

The first to smile, the first to laugh, the first to raise their hand, the funniest thing that ever happened kid award, the most outrageous, the finest vocabulary, the most books read...the thing here is please leave NO one out! They all made it!
I made up simple diplomas for my daughter's class and tied them with ribbon...and there was a ceremony for them...they were so proud.......they stood in line like collegiates and were so serious, some giggling...and ALL so proud...the parents too cried...... what ever you decide. please leave no one out....I used my gift of calligraphy.....in brown ink and I would lay odds that even today those diplomas are on the walls!
All of the mothers who thought I was a bit (or more, ahem...) offbeat came up and hugged me to which I replied ..."I didn't do it, your child did..." and the truth is they all deserve something to remember...as apparently you are one teacher who sees the finest in everyone. I would have loved to have been your student!
