We live out in the country and it looks like its a plague. There are grasshoppers everywhere eating everything in sight that is green. It looks like some horror movie. They are really bad. What can be done to get rid of them. We cant enjoy outdoors cause they fly right straight to you and jump as you walk out into the lawn.

I had this problem several years ago, this year they are back but not as bad.
There are products containing diazanon, in granule form, you sprinkle it on and water it in.You get a much better control with this form than a spray. You have to stay on top of it through out the season. The reason you are not seeing any results could be one of two things. The grasshoppers lay eggs by the dozens, and although you may kill the ones in the grass the hatch lings come soon after, this is why you have to keep repeating the pest control. It is also important to keep the grass mowed. If you live in the country this is hard to do. My garden is fenced off but surrounded by 80 acres of graze land. It is impossible to rid the whole land of grasshoppers. If you will just stay on top of the pesticide, following the directions, I think in most brands you can repeat weekly, you will get a handle on them. The following year I had Snakes! lots of them, but they seemed to take care of most of the pests. This year I have toads, and they are keeping it somewhat under control. I still have the grasshoppers outside my fenced area, but nothing like it was...plague is a sure enough good way to describe it!
God Bless
