a tote box for her to store all those first year keepsakes and fill it with useful stuff like dreft baby cloths wash liquid...diapers, wipes, an outfit, a disposable camara, a mommy gift( lotion, candles what ever she would like) blankets, toys, stuffed animals, bottles, even breast pads and pads come in handy!!! a calling card to call all of thoe long distant relatives... another great idea home made babywipes
cut a role of paper towels in half buy a plastic container that it will fit into with a lid. pull the cardboard roll out of the middle place in the cotainer. mix 3-4 Tbsp. of baby bath in a cup of warm water and pour over the wipes... you might have to add a little more water if all the "wipes" don't get wet but you don't want water sitting in the container bottom... decorate the cotainer to match the baby's nursey theme and write the directions on a gift card and tape to the top...they are orignal , cute, cheap and the talk of the party!!

Is she not registered? Hmmm what was the best baby gift I got? Sometimes I go to Sams or Costco whatever you have and I buy several boxes of the economy sized diapers and wipes. Always appreciated. Or you could buy her a couple cases of jarred baby food. I tend to lean towards the put together gift baskets. Like I made my own babyfood and if you think she is the kind of person that would do that. Then you could get the book Super Baby Food, a baby food grinder, a ton of ice trays some large freezer bags a black permanent marker and some of those take and toss plastic bowels for her to transport her homemade baby food in and arrange it really cute with celaphan etc in a large bowel. I also like to make up an emergency kit for momma complete with deep conditioner for their hair. Bubble bath, face mask, manicure and pedicure essential, razor and anything else girly that she could pamper herself with. Also baby care books are good. Nobody ever thinks of that. My favorites were the happiest baby on the block (his secrete truely work on any aged baby) and I like the Secretes of the baby whisperer. Just a few ideas. I would stay away from clothes and blankets etc... everyone else is going to get those for her. If you want to buy linens get sheets and mattress pads etc.... people always like to get the fun stuff and I'm sure she already has bought herself a ton of clothes. Oh! But if you want to buy clothes get them in larger sizes. Not 0-3 months. Good luck I'm sure she will adore anything you get her. Happy shopping

Sweetie I am the oldest of seven and the only one who does not have any children, i have found the best gifts are the more sensible ones...get a wooden laudry basket, file it with nessicities..baby wipes, receiving blanket, extra bottles, onies, socks, baby oil, lotion , powder, aromotherpy candle (for mom) and one stuff animal, clear preasent bag put together add a bow and everyone at the party will ask themselves why they didn't think of that. Go to Walmart or Target. It's a baby if you buy something more expensive they are going to grow out of it anyway!

Go to websites of stores that offer online gift registries and check out the most popular baby registry items. There's a fairly comprehensive list on Target.com and on the babies R us site through amazon. Some of the items are really useful like hooded towel sets or a diaper genie.

Dont' get clothes, you won't know how big they'll be in what season, best odds gift, diapers....you know they'll use them. Size 1 pamper swaddlers and maybe some wipes, baby hangers are also good to give. Some different gifts that no one else will think of are board books and batteries of all sizes, (every kids toy needs batteries) it's really thoughtfull actually.

You can get a baby bathtub, and fill it with things like, a bottle of baby shampoo, baby lotion, baby soap, tub toys, baby towel and washcloths. Then you put a big bow on top of all of this.I have given this gift to friends, and it is always a big hit.

first you have to figure out what she already has, then decide how much you can afford to spend, You can always buy her a pack of diapers (not newborn size, b/c she may already have too many of them) then get the mom something, like a certificate for a prenatal massage, or a pedicure, those were the best things i got for my baby shower.. And don't forget the dad too!!

Do you want to get something practical or fun?
Clothing is always a good choice if it is a first baby. Bathing supplies, sheets, high chair, play yard. Some unpractical things are a Moses basket (I love them), but they are only good for as long as the baby is tiny. A Bumbo chair is a good thing to teach the baby to sit up and strengthen their muscles. They are fairly new on the U.S. market.
