Yes. Most health insurance plans are valid the day you sign up. However, there may be what is known as a pre-existing condition limitation. This means that any pre-exiting condition may not be covered for 6 months.

You are usually covered from the day you are approved for health insurance – but that is not necessarily the same day that you apply. Usually the insurance company will call you after you apply and ask you a few questions before you are officially enrolled in the health plan. And there are other restrictions, the most notable being a waiting, or exclusionary, period. This usually has to do with a specific condition such as diabetes, heart disease, or cancer. The health plan will look back (typically six months) and see what you were treated for in that time. Then, they can exclude any coverage for that condition – usually for six or 12 months. The same is true if you need physical therapy for an injury you had before you signed up for the health plan. Under an HMO, you might not be covered for certain medical problems until you have selected a primary care provider.

You might want talk with locally licensed health insurance agents. They’ve answered this questions many, many times. One way to get in touch with agents is through MostChoice.com. It’s a Web site that offers free quotes and health insurance information. There’s no cost or obligation to buy insurance from any of the agents that contact you. Just ask them your question and let them do the heavy lifting.

It would depend on the plan and coverage and contract. Some have a grace waiting period of 30 days, others don't cover you that day but it's retroactive so it could be billed from a dr after the coverage kicks in for back to day 1.

I have viewed allot of plans for my wife and they have been either where you had to wait for your coverage. If you got the coverage you were not covered for pre-existing conditions. The cost was to much for some of the plans and if you wanted extra coverage for prescription, dental and all the other the price went up. Good Luck

I use a fee-for-services program called AmeriPlan. Once you get the package in the mail, you can use the card immediately because they don't have any restrictions. You should check them out.
