I am 37 years old. I remember a time when we(the people of the United States) did not like something , we stood up and protested or rebeled until something was done to correct what we did not stand for.
But now everyone seems to just bend over and take it?
Are we too comfortable driving our big SUV's, and living our plastic electronic lives to say somethiing?
Are we just TOO politically correct?
Why cant we be happy anymore?
I really think this country is on a downward spiral.

I'm not sure who you are speaking for, but quite honestly, I am happy. Maybe the secret is....I don't drive a "big SUV, I don't use plastic, I can live without the computer (though I do use it), and most importantly I don't want to be politically correct. I don't think our country is on a downward spiral, I do think that there are far too many people in this county that think they are owed something. I read some of the responses on Yahoo Answers, especially to political questions and the bashing, foul mouthed, childish things people say I find sad. I say, drop the political correctness, remember who you are and get on with life before it passes you by.

too politically correct? Political correctness has it's roots in the civil rights protests?

What does political correctness have to do with not protesting? Many people who believe in political correctness the most are those that do protest?

Those that complain about political correctness while riding in the aforementioned SUVs seem to be the ones who don't ever "do anything"?

People began to conform to a moral majority. Afraid to take chances and stand up on their own two feet and voice their opinions for fear they will be ostracized for their differences when there was a time, in fact, that differences are what made this country and the people unite into one. People are too afraid that if they don't bend over and pick up the soap then the warden won't use KY ... when the truth is, if you bend over you are sacrificing yourself and your values to become another of the "moral majority" who feels safe and protected in a world that is shrivelling to its knees and its values system in ignorance.

Without the differences of our people being acceptable to all cultures in our country we will continue to divide ourselves into secluded little sub-cultures living in barbaric times. How can a country evolve if it cannot even live in a civilized manner with all cultures and diversities within their own people...?

There must be term limits for Congress. These people are "lifers" and have too many perks. They should ONLY be ale to hold the office for one term; that way, reelection is a non-issue.

As it stands now, many Senators and members of the House stay forever (Byrd, Kennedy, Boxer, Feingold, et al). They forget they work for the people and end up pandering to lobbyists and propogate nothing useful--or worse, pass "pork" to pacify special interests. Term Limits! Get rid of these lifers!

well it all boils down to everyone has a cause and none of them overlap enough for people to become involved . If i am anti gun ,and pro death penelty ,pro life longer prison sentences for criminals hard on drug users and dui's and lower taxes.HOW do you expect me to join your pro life, anti death penalty make some room in jail by leting pot heads out group when i own a gun and want lower taxes. We only agree on one thing pro life .
People will not agree that we need to find a balance that includes freedom and respect for all people and certian things are right no matter what your religious beleifs are .We allow far to many laws to be passed with out being willing to pay for it .Longer prison sentences no tax increases so lets cut social programs.
NOW we have according to fema billions spent on hotels and where i do not care-- hooters after a terrible event like katrina who cares if you eat at hooters no one can go any-where do anything without the conservatives pointing fingers and washington has more escort sevices then any city per-capita who pays them we do so quit pointing fingers at a few dollars being spent in a hooters.tax payers dollars get wasted all the time and if we are going to jail a guy for spending some money at hooters then we need to jail the politicians that waste our monet too. There was no list of approved or un-aproved locations for the debit cards use and of all the cards issued how much of it was wasted realy congress men do not pay for meals and drinks out of there own pockets it is part of there exspenses voted on by them lets get some real accountnts to check on our representatives .SOME 5th grade math classes should do nicely they would not be able to notice the grey areas and disalow all the exspenses.

You said it! Too much pandering to undesirables ... too much political correctness, which is nothing other than brain washing ... I just WISH people would start to remember that our government was supposed to be OF the people FOR the people ... and this bunch who is busily selling off or giving away this country is certainly not FOR the people ... not for the American people anyway ....

Unfortunately, I agree. Just look at the majority of those members of the younger generations and the direction of the government (more bloated and inefficient than ever). Sad state of affairs and going down

For one thing tell the United States to impeach Bush so he will quit killing our families with war and poverty. He has us far in the hole filling his own pocket. We need a president as in Clinton and Kennedy. If you vote republican you deserve to be poor and jobless.
