I have pain under my kneecap when I walk down hills or run. Also if i squat which causes the muscles around my knee to flex?

this could be tendonitis in one of the three major ligaments in you knee that could be affected. you can try a knee brace to keep your knee cap in place properly that should alleviate some of the pain. or a knee strap which serves the same purpose and just wraps around just under the knee cap. it could be that your knee cap is sliding out of place too. try this website: http://www.kneepaininfo.com/kneepatellardislocation.html
if problem persists see your doc or a physitherapist for a better medical opinion.

You could have a torn ligament of one of the three major ligaments of the knee or you could have "runner's knee" aka patellae-femoral syndrome. I have had both, yet they cause slightly different types of pain. If you have a sharp pain it could be a torn ligament. A dull pain which lasts a few minutes may be runner's knee. Runner's knee is from over training, and causes the femoral head (top of your thigh bone which meets the patella, aka knee cap) to rub the back of the knee cap and the pain can be felt underneath. I would suggest stop running, and doing squats; just stick to the bike for now, and use some ice, maybe an anti-inflammatory and go see an orthopedist.

Depending on your age you could have a number of diseases. Im 15 and have a disease called auzgood slaughters (that's the phonetic spelling) and I can't kneel or squat for very long because of intense pains I get in my knees. Also, after heavy physical activity, they get stiff.

I have very similar pain, which is due to an injury from playing football on ice a few years back. If it's bothering you constantly, you should go to a doctor and get it checked out.

it sounds like a dry bursa, that is the lubricating pad under the knee cap

Possibly arthritis. Especially if you have had a prior injury.
