You can do a title search in the local county office. All real estate titles are public record.

Tax maps. Here's the deal. At least in NJ, each municipality maintains property records of all commercial & residential properties in its borders. In my area, the deeds and property descriptions are at my county courthouse, clerk's office. If you lived here in Cumberland County, I'd suggest you goto the county library to research the lot & block numbers, then call/visit the clerk's office to find out who currently owns this property.

However, it's the 21st century now, so you can probably do everything online. Maybe for free, maybe not. I don't know any websites, though.

If it's for sale and being sold by a realtor, contact the realtor. If it is a sheriff sale or forclosure sale, contact the agency who handles these (usually auctions, typically sheriff's office).
