My son who is almost seven months old is currently in foster care. He is coming home June 30th and I got his schedule.

He drinks 6 oz bottles every three hours. The foster parents feed him once or twice daily (baby food). And he wakes up in the middle of the night like a newborn. I am not looking forward to this because I was up with him all the time when he was a newborn. I need help.

SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE!

My question is where the question mark is. At the top and highlighted. How much should a seven month old drink when he takes a bottle?

I should rephrase the question. How much should a 7 month old drink in a bottle and how many times per day?

I love my son, and wouldn't trade him for the world. I just am alittle frustrated because they took him from me and I didn't do anything. They carry him all the time, and he wakes up in the night wanting to eat. I thought it was over because before he was taken he slept all night long. I know now that I have to face a child that is almost reverted totally back to infancy.

The foster parents already want to adopt him. And my parental rights aren't being terminated.

He should have 5 8 oz bottles of formula per day - not including night feeds. By now he should be eating solids 3 times per day. My son is 7 months and he eats 5 tbsp of mixed cereal for breakfast, 1/2 jar of vegetables for lunch, 5tbsp of mixed cereal with 1/2 jar fruit for dinner. at 8 months you can start adding ground meats to his diet. Maybe check out a health Canada website for more ideas for when he gets bigger. Hope this is helpful!!
For sleeping through the night, try the book HEALTHY SLEEP HABITS HAPPY CHILD it is apparently life chaning. I haven't tried it myself but just heard about it.

Well every baby is different, however you would think at this age he would sleep throught the night. The more you feed a baby the more his metabolism grows so he's hungry more frequently. However since you mentioned him being in foster care I don't know if CPS is invoved or not, if so, trust me you don't want him to lose any weight. No mater what. At this age, he'll let you know when he's hungry and in 3 months he'll be ten months and his feeding schedule will change again since he'll be eating a lot more solid foods. You can also give him 9 ounce bottles. The big ones. That way he'll eat more at a serving. And if you put him to bed at 7 or 8 or 9 with a bath, and a warm bottle he should sleep all night. maybe only waking up onece in the night. Are they putting cereal in his bottle? If not, the baby;s not full and that's why he's waking so much. Give that baby some rice cereal in his bottle. or feed him jar food before bedtime. I hope this helps you.

Sorry...I don't understand; what's the question? What do you need help with?

From what I can see, I wonder why he's only getting six ounces. I would ask his ped about that. My son is three months and that is what he eats exactly. But, add a serving or two of rice cereal and take away a baby food feeding.

All newborns wake during the night, as I'm sure your aware. But, newborns are very senstive and can sense your fustration. Your best bet is to keep calm. Even if that means putting him down for a few minutes while you collect yourself. Then, pick him up and rock him.

The Dr. Sears, The Baby Book, is great. The advice he gives is to love and shower baby with attention during the day - so they don't look for it at night. Honestly, this has worked wonders!

Good Luck!

my son when he was 7 months old had an 8 oz bottle every 4 hours, four times a day. he did fine on that. one thing that may help is if you keep it light while he is napping and not too quiet, but at night when he is sleeping keep it pitch black and SILENT! that is what taught my son to sleep through the night. he is old enough where his tummy is big enough so he shouldn't wake up at night because he is hungry. one thing to rememeber is to give him solid food during the day. this will ensure he gets all of his daily calories that he needs so he won't wake up in the middle of the night having to fill that gap.it may also help to give him baby cereal and a bottle before bed. my son loves it when i mix yogurt in his cereal! if your son does still wake up in the middle of the night keep it as dark and quiet as possible and avoid eye contact. give him a bottle if necessary and put him right back to bed. he may need a diaper change if he wakes up at night too, to avoid leaks that may occur after a nighttime bottle. a leak will also wake him at night. people will tell you not to feed him in the middle of the night but i have a nine month old and the few occasions he does wake up in the middle of the night he will not go back to sleep until he has had his bottle. i'm just being realistic.

well enjoy your son. it must have been so hard on you to have him away like that. i hope it doesn't happen in the future. enjoy your son!!! good luck.

I have a 7 month old daughter and she takes 8 oz about every 3 1/2 hours. she also still gets up twice at night to take a bottle. to make it easy i use the powdered formula and have it already measured out in a bottle. i have a bottle of water there so all i have to do is dump it in and shake it and feed her. she eats cereal in the AM and she takes a jar of baby food at noon and around 6PM. It must be exciting getting him! Good luck!!

feed him when he's hungry. if he's not hungry, he won't eat, but it may be the suckling he needs. After all, he needs to be close to his mom, he was born with that instinct. Hon, please hear this the right way: I don't think you are ready for this, based on what you wrote. Do you feel that your ready, or are you just afraid to lose him for good to the system? Ths child needs love and patience. None of us are perfect moms, but it gets easier and better as time goes on.
If you truly feel that you are ready, then enlist the help of family and friends that care, and I mean really care. Also, reach out to the community that helps young moms. They will help you to stay focused.
ask yourself why you lost custody in the first place. Then, what are the chances of reoccurance?/ Are you being honest with yourself? This baby is still a baby. He's been out of your belly less than a year, so try not to expect anything except that he needs you. if you can't handle that, please keep him safe, and don't take it out on him. he's just a little baby boy. So God damned innocent, and yopu have the power to screw him up,kill him, or rise him up like a good woman/mom should. You can do it. there is nothing that is stronger than you.
Picture a good mom and be that mom. It's as easy as looking in the mirror
By the way, babies aren't robots. feed them and love them when they need it, not when some damn book says so. It's not like taking care of a plant, or putting gas in your car.

7 month old babies should be able to take an 8 oz bottle with each feed. I usually recommend 3 8oz bottles per day along with ~2oz of rice cereal (mixed with formula/breastmilk 1:1 on a spoon - not in the bottle) and 1-2 jars of stage I foods. Most babies can have rice cereal for breakfast, 8oz bottle @ mid-morning, jar of baby food for lunch, 8oz bottle in the afternoon, jar of baby food for dinner, then 8oz bottle before bed. Be sure to not let your baby fall asleep with the bottle in the mouth. If he has any teeth, it will promote cavities.

These may be my recommendations, but it is certainly not the only way. 24oz of formula/breastmilk is a good rule of thumb for 6-12 months of age. As they get bigger, they will eat more solids. I happen to like the regimen above because it gets them in the habit of 3 meals per day.

My daughter is 6 months, 2 weeks old. She has a 6 oz. bottle & 2 Tbsp. oatmeal at 7 a.m., baby food and 3 oz. of formula at 10 a.m., baby food & 3 oz. of formula at 1 p.m., 6 oz. formula at 4 p.m., 6 oz. formula & 2 Tbsp. cereal at 7 p.m. and sleeps from 8p.m. - 7 a.m.!

Obviously the times sometimes change but it's every 3 hours and then she sleeps 11 hours at night. I go to earlier than I used to but I get up at 6 a.m. so I'm wide awake for her at 7 :)
