And since they are on City property, why can someone sue the homeowner if they trip and fall on the sidewalks in front of someones' house?

If a homeowner has pride in their properties appearance they have to keep the grass on the easement trimmed and the sidewalks shoveled as it is.

The sidewalk is not on my property, it is in front of my property. My own sidewalk butts up against the city sidewalk but in my city the city charges the homeowner half the cost of replacing the city sidewalk that abuts your property.

If the City put the sidewalk in, then it is up to them (or their agents) to maintain the sidewalk. A homeowner does not own the sidewalk & is not responsible unless they are in some type of homeowners association. This is how it is where I am at in California. I can't speak for the whole world.

if you own your home then you own the ground its built on ,thats why youpay ground ,building insurance.
