well bud, im sorry to say that even if they are able to refurbish it their gonna tell you they cant, its a money making technique used by cell phone companies to make money. you see if their is a single loophole to get it to where they can say that they couldnt like for instance it wasnt economically logical then they arent breaking any laws, so though it may only cost them say about 10 dollars to fix or less there still losing money. so it does sound like from how you explain that is very possible to get it refurbished. my advice is to find a private repairman that knows how much it really costs, now i know you said that there was a chance that it would be free well thats where your wrong, find a private repairman in your area that will probly charge like 20- 30 dollars, but the plus side is you get it back within days. because you aso have to pay the shipping and handling, repair fee with the company, with a repairman you only need to pay for parts if any are required, and then workhours which is probly only a couple hour if not a few minutes fix. take my advice on this one, i know alot about electronics, and economics, now you can go ahead and look up the service prices on the internet, that your provider charge but its gonna say the same thing they tell you over the phone.

The best thing to do is go to your nearest Cingular repair centre and ask them to do the repair on site using used parts if they have any. This will save you money and used parts are generally high quality. Cingular customer service should be able to tell you where the nearest authorized repair centre is. The used parts normally come out of phones that have suffered some kind of damage but had parts that were salvageable. I have gone this route with my carrier and had excellent results. Good luck!

i have sprint service and a year ago my sanyo phone had corrosion in the charger port chip. i was told by sprint that the charging parts of a phone are not replaceable and i had to get a new phone at that time. it may be different for cingular or samsung.
one possible option may be this. sprint phones have the traditional parallel charger port as well as a pin-hole charger port. if one of the ports is damaged you can use the other. with sprint they will exchange your charger for the other type at no charge. i have had to exchange chargers twice in the past 3 years.

You can replace the entire phone for under $100 usually $40 on eBay, and those are Cingular phones.....so why bother sweating the repair?

It depends what the tech at your cingular store decides, since this was a piece from a charger, you should not be charged, however it also depends on what type of condition your phone is in.

If it is just simply a broken pin on the bottom it will be able to be refurbished because they can simply pull the charging unit from an existing phone and replace it.

I had the same exact problem. They will refurbish your phone, the chip your talking about is inexpensive. Sort of like how it costs ten cents to make a CD but yet we pay good money for them anyway. Regardless I did not get a new phone and neither should you.

I am sorry to say, but I think u will have to pay for it. Only because it has to do with a chip. Now keep in mind I am not a expert, but from my experience in working for a cell company, most cases it could not be fixed. I hope they can though.

if it is under warranty I would contact cingular but if not you can take it to an electronic store who repairs them and get it fixed much cheaper.
