Well first there was 9/11. Everyone remembers that. Then we went into Afghanistan and kicked some ***. Rightfully so. About a year later, Bush labels Iraq as part of an "axis of evil" along with North Korea and Iran. Funny thing, Iran and Iraq hated each other's gutts, they did fight a war against each other. He also stated that Saddam was growing his bio/chemical arsenal and possibly his own nuke program. He also stated that Saddam's regime had links to al qaeda. Which is mostly bullshit. Osama bin Laden criticized Saddam's regime, saying that he was a corrupt and not a true muslim. He hated his government almost as much as he hated the US. Anyway, Bush exploited what little if any evidence of such a link and their left over biochemical arsenal from decades ago to sway the public into supporting this invasion. Supposedly it was to be another front in the war on terror. But there were no terrorists in Iraq until after we removed Saddam. I think Bush had other reasons for the invasion. What they are, I'm not sure. I think the war on terror got sidetracked a little bit. But as long as the terrorists are busy over there and not here.
