Go into the control panel, click the system icon, go into the hardware tab and click the device manager button. Look for the sound card section of the hardware listing. Click the little + in front to open it. Write down the name of the card. See if there is either a red X or a yellow exclaimation point in front of your sound card. If so, right click on the sound card and select uninstall. Reboot the laptop and it will reinstall in the card.

If that does not work, you will have to go to the web site of the manufacturer of laptop and look in their download section for the drivers for the card. (that's why you wrote down the name).
