I don't think I should put the old sand in the garbage, but it's full of bugs & I don't want it just sitting in my yard either...

I'd try tilling it in with my soil, the sand would improve the drainage unless you have heavy clay soil in which case it would turn to cement.
How about taking it to the beach, beaches could always use more sand?

The Saudis will pay good money to recycle your used sand once you've taken it over there.

Find a landfill - most landfills will let you put sand and dirt in for free.
