join the gym, take an evening class that's always peeked your interest or volunteer... or hey even go to church... you need to meet positive people that will help you and support you along your journey

It all starts with a conversation really. Preferably in a relaxed enviroment where people will be able to focus on conversation. It all starts with one person..from there the group gets bigger. Don't push a friendship..it has to be spontaneous. People can smell desperate..and that freaks them out. So be cool, relax, patience and honesty will prevail. I don't know if church is your thing, that is alway's a place you can make aquaintances. Also try getting involved in an activity where you will share common interest's with others. That is a easy way to make friends.
All the best cuzzin.
I Respek what you doing and wish you well.

Join a fitness club, church groups, community volunterism,,,, I have been out of the loop for a long time, but find an organization that matches your hobby. I like to fish, and there are various groups (fly fishing, fly tying, bass fishing etc groups that have meetings and activities throughout the year). Go on line and check out what there is available in your area. Oh, and by the way; congratulations. It takes guts and committment to do what you have done. I wish you well.

In the past, I have found that the best way to meet people is by going places where people like me are or hang out. This includes groups/clubs, online forums specific to my interests, and social venues that are more likely to cater to people that share my interests or tastes. Since you are likely to get along with people that have similar interests, this tends to be more successful for me. Also, you will already have several conversation topics most likely.

Good luck! And congratulations on a successful rehabilitation.

You have to find clean things to do. Sports and hobbies are a good way. Walking clubs, hiking clubs, cycling clubs are in most cities. Look into your neighbourhood newspaper for presentations, like at your planetarium or something like that. It's going to feel really weird - and I'm sure you'll think lame - but I applaud you for what you have accomplished and I wish you every success.

Get involved in a new activity that you really have an interest in. Having a common ground with someone makes it easy to be friends. Treat others and you want to be treated. Good Luck

congratulations. i am very proud of you. it's easy to get clean, but not to give up the friends you have known for so long. you are well on your way to having a wonderful life. try taking up a new hobby and joining a support group for recovering addicts. they are going through the same things you are.

Maybe you could go to a meeting. Coffee shops are great places to meet people. The Internet, bookstores, the supermarket, the Laundromat.

Make a list of positive things you like to do .
List your positive personality traits and look for people with the same interests and values .Do not tell of your past unless it is to help one of your new friends.

I would suggest joining a gym, class, book club (if you like to read) and then just be approachable. Smile, ask questions, people like to talk about themselves. Good luck and congratulations on completing your program.
