My boyfriend, who is currently in Iraq with the National Guard, told me that he wants to get me a promise ring. I understand the concept of one but what does it mean to the guy? I guess I'm looking for an answer from a guys point of view. Please enlighten me!

My boyfriend of four years just bought me a promise ring because we both know that we want to get married, but we both also know that we're not getting married any time soon. (Because of financial reasons) To him it's kind of like an engagement ring, but not really. Because when a guy puts an engagement ring on your finger, people constantly ask about when you're going to set a date. But a promise ring kind of lets people know that you ARE going to get married, but that you're not actively preparing for marriage.

Well, I know I'm not a guy, but when I got a promise ring, it meant that we would get married sometime. It's a higher level of commitment than just dating, but lower than engagement, I guess. Probably because your man is in Iraq, he wants more commitment, but wants to ask you to marry him in person. For other people, I think they may give women promise rings so that they won't bug them about marriage or so that they're sure that they will keep the girl, but are afraid to get engaged.

Well from a womens point of view a promise ring is basically a ring that promises to you that your man will be faithful to you and is promising that he will be with you..........I guess it is kind of an engagement ring..........This is from past experiences by the way........Good Luck.....................

He wants to put you on layaway. Doesn't want to be engaged because that's too heavy...but doesn't want you to mess around on him while he's gone.
