Lust can be felt for someone you don't know. Love is built on trust and commitment to eachother. Most people make the mistake of thinking it's love when it's in fact lust. You can't love someone that you barely know. That would be crossing the line from lust to obsession.

Lust just wants to be satisfied. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not enough to base a relationship on.
Love is 2am and you're throwing up and he's holding your head---for the 4th night in a row.
Love is committing to work through problems, even when you'd rather storm off.
Love lasts. Lust does not.

Love concerns matters of the heart, a deeper feeling rather than sensory pleasure.
