It quite often happens nautrally due to the pressure of labor on the sac, for some it happens before labor has fully set in, for others, like what happened with my baby, it can happen hours into delivery, if the sac is not broken from the pressue of the contractions then there are one of two options:
1) allow the baby to be born in the sac and puncture it afterwards, this is completely safe is isn't really that rare (happened when I was born and i came out fine) or
2) The doctor/midwife will use a device to puccure it, there are two types used to pucure it these days, the older odd crochet hook thing and a newer item that is, from what my midwife explained, kind of like a tape thing that helps break the sac (I never saw the thing so i don't know it's details)
I hope I was of some help!!!

Good good I was worried! Lol like a said before it is a long metal stick like thing and they will go in and attach the end that kinda looks like a crochet needle into the sac and pull and "pop" there it goes! You may even feel the baby drop simultaneously. Just pray it doesn't have to be done because it hurts because they have to go through the cervix which doesn't like to be touch in order to reach it. I am a qualified EMT I and I have NEVER been told to open the amniotic sac for any reason. That will just open risk for infection.
I just looked up the name of the tool and it is a amniotomy hook. This is the website I found it on... it has some good stuff on it take a look!

Well, I have always been taught (I work with emergency medical) that if you are at home and are having a baby in an emergency, first call 911, they should give you Pre Arrival instructions, though not all agencies do, if the baby is delivered and the sac has not been broken, safely do it with a pin. Carefully.

A doctor breaks the amniotic sac by inserting a crochet looking hook through your cervix and 'hooks' onto the sac, then tugs gently until it it broken. It's not all painful, but it is uncomfortable. I would advise that you don't let your husband watch it being done as my husband fainted when he saw it happening!

I answered your last question too I mentioned its usually done with a hook
I think maybe your husband is worried about activities you might engage in that would cause it to rupture... if that's the case you have nothing to worry about sex (even rough sex), aerobics, jogging, lifting etc will not make your water break
I hope I helped this time :)
