The fire extinguisher in our home lost pressure, mostly because it's never been used. Can I refill it? Where?

Man. I don't know where most of you answerers live, but no fire department I have ever seen recharges fire extinguishers (with MAYBE the exception of water units.) Most extinguisher service companies recharge extinguishers for many of the area fire departments.

You need to get ahold of a fire extinguisher service company. Look in your local yellow pages under fire extinguishers to see who is in your area. They will take a look a your extinguisher and let you know if it is the rechareable type and if you are money ahead to go ahead and refill it or replace it. (Sometimes if the unit is old and needs hydrotested, you may be better off to just replace it.)

If it turns out that it's less money to buy a new one, consider buying one with a METAL head so it can be easily recharged if you wind up using it. (Metal heads are safer and have far less tendency to leak.)

Good luck!

There are fire supply distributors everywhere who will do this. Look in the yellow pages. Some cheap home extigushers are not meant to be refilled.

Ask your local fire department. If they don't know, you'd be better off buying a new one. They don't cost much and they are available at Wal-Mart.
