A special lottery is to be held to select the student who will live in the only deluxe room in a dormitory. There are 100 seniors, 150 juniors, and 200 sophomores who applied. Each senior's name is placed in the lottery 3 times; each junior's name, 2 times; and each sophomore's name, 1 time. What is the probability that a senior's name will be chosen?

100 X 3 is 300 senior names 150 X 2 is 300 junior names and 200 X 1 is 200 sophmore names

thats 800 and 300 are seniors so there is a 300 out of 800 chance for a senior or 3 out of 8 or divide 8 into 3 and you get 37.5% chance

Okay
Each senior got 3 name slips so 3 x 100 = 300
Each junior got 2 name slips so 2 x 150 = 300
Each sophomore only got 1 so 1 x 200 = 200

The total number of name slips is 300 + 300 + 200 = 800

The probability of a senior is 300/800 or 3/8 = 37.5%

Seniors- 100 ppl x 3 entries = 300 entries

Juniors- 150 ppl x 2 entries = 300 entries

Sophomores- 200 ppl x 1 entries = 200 entries

800 total entries-300 seniors

300/800, reduced to 3/8s.

A senior will be pick 3 out of every 8 tries, or a little under 40%. (3 divided by 8)
