Do terrorists really "hate our freedoms?"?

I just think that they are too conservative religiously. Serious question.

Corny as it sounds, yes. They do hate our freedoms. Usually terrorists are extremists. Whether it's the white supremecists or the abortion clinic bombers or the Islamic fundamentalists they do not like the tolerance of our society. They consider us decadent. They usually would like to see a more repressive society that advocates their particular religious or philisophical viewpoint. More tolerant people aren't likely to become terrorists.
Terrorism is traditionally also aimed at restricting freedoms. The goal of terrorists is often to make the government they are fighting respond with heavy handed, repressive measures intended to make a show of combating terrorists. This will draw a negative reaction from around the world and from the governed, gaining more support for the terrorists' cause.
Unfortunately, governments often hate our freedoms too. Look, for instance, at how the Patriot Act is a laundry list of measure that conservatives wanted for a long time before 9-11 but that were prevented from being enacted out of concern for civil liberties. Terrorism was the excuse they were waiting for to restrict freedom.
The best way to defeat terrorism is to present a clear alternative- to be better than the terrorists. Want to really cheese the terrorists off? Don't let our government limit our civil liberties.

I don't think it's the freedoms they hat. But our culture and the way we took over the "cop of the world" role. Our culture is not better than any other culture, but we think that it is, and we try to enforce it upon other people. No wonder they hate us.

No. I don't think they give a hoot about our freedoms. What they hate is how Western culture is invading and taking over much of theirs.

They think you should have many rights. The right to pray to the god they tell you. You have the right to die if you do not want to. They have been doing this for 1000 years.
