I mean if it was over a girl you was both seing etc then I could see cause for concern
Dont worry about it.
Leave it let it cool for a while, then pretend nothing happends as im sure he will want to make up as much as you if he is a true good friend otherwise who cares obviouslyisnt the mate you though he was

You'll feel better if you email them and apologize if you've hurt their feelings but explain that since both of you have such strong opinions about the world cup maybe you should agree that it's okay to argue however, you'll always be friends. After all, everybody has their favorites!
