my flat screen monitor went completely dead. i purchased it less than two years ago, so i'm pretty pissed about that.

a few weeks ago i turned on the computer, and the monitor was completely black. the power button was green and i was able to see the pictures and words on the screen by squinting. so i restarted the computer and it was fine for that day. however the next day i turned it on and nothing.

but, again, i was able to see the words and pictures, but it was pitch black with no light? seriously, whaddup wit dat?!?! PLEASE HELP! I had to dig for an ugly crt in my attic, and i'm not too happy about that. i'd like to know if it can before i trash it.

thnx, in advance!

actually it is because the lights blew out. all lcd's have a back light in them to light up the screen. when that light blows out, you get a black screen. you will have to contact the manufacturer and send it in to be replaced

First, check the *power* plug in the back of the monitor. The problem with modern plugs is they tend to get loose, and some power connectors are faulty and may loosen.

Most modern monitors (CRT & LCD) have a two state status light that lights up next to the power button. The light is either green or orange (or sometimes blinking green is used in place of orange). Usually, when the monitor is on standby (meaning, no signal from the graphics controller), the light is orange (or blinking green). If the light is green, the monitor is active. Now that you know about monitor states....

If the light is solid green, and the PC is powered on... you have a bad graphics card... go buy a replacement, they're fairly cheap ($20 for a low end item).

If the light is blinking, this means your signal is never leaving your computer... definitely a bad graphics card.

Also try plugging the monitor into a nother computer, or the back of a laptop. If it lights up... definitely your graphics card, if not-- bad monitor.

Unfornunately, the only way to know for sure your monitor is on the fritz is to change the graphics card... or try another computer.

hmmm. I had a friend about a year ago that had this same thing happen. I don't know how to fix it but I can explain how it happened.

My friend was out with his girlfriend and the rest of us guys were having an air-soft war in the basement someone accidentally shot his screen and it damaged it. Knowing that he would be pissed we took the back off and cut several wires it still worked so we tried burning it and it still worked so we to a screw driver to the circuit board then again to our surprise the damn thing wouldn't break. so we kept bashing it until the damn thing didn't work only the green light came on. We screwed the back on and set it up to his computer he came home and thought it just went out. SO THE POINT OF MY STORY IS MAYBE YOUR FRIENDS DID IT.
