yeah, I'm still looking for a HAL 9000 voice, though.

I know it's there but do not use it. It's pretty limited and the speech is not very clear. One thing that is irritating is that a Fat Mac (macintosh) had this voice capability in 1985 with nearly the exact same voice. So it took 20 years for MS to get to the same point? I would like to think we would have the equivalent of HAL (as the other poster mentioned) by now where the computer could interact with you verbally at least in a somewhat conversational manner. Maybe in another 20 years.

You really need to see videos of how the text-to-speech can transform your computer from a dull, lifeless, box, into something that lives. To see what I'm talking about, go to: ( http://www.youtube.com/results?search=espeaking ).

Text-To-Speech (TTS) can be exciting and vibrant. You can download very interesting and lifelike voices at: http://www.e-Speaking.com/voices.htm

The e-Speaking software was built with a heavy emphasis on text-to-speech. The software uses TTS capabilities to enable the computer to respond verbally to your instructions.
