c) he should choose the second one because it will result in the most money in the long run.

b) Method a is linear and Method B is exponential

a) x=number of years y= payment

make a table with on side being x and the other being y, you can put any number you want in the x side of the table but make sure it is low number like 1-30 because this will represent the number of years the guy has been working. The number you put into the x column you will plug into the equation where ever there is an x and the result you get from that after simplifying and solving for y you will put into the y column of the table and that is what the guy makes in the year.

12 dollars an hour x 8 hours a day times 5 days a week=?

Ok when you have a weekly number times that by 52 weeks a year....for your GROSS..then figure out what 5% of that number is...

then figure out how many hours he works in his 52 weeks..and add 50.cents per hour to his total for 52 weeks...

You have two different numbers...which is greater?

5% is taken on his TOTAL EARNINGS..

and the 50cents is given on each hour he works..ONE is going to give him MONEY for nothing....

I'm thinking depending on the difference...IN DOLLARS the % is going to give the best gain...YOU DO THE MATH..and figure it out

method b because 5% of the total amount is more than 50 cents.

The additional 5% will ultimatly be tremendously greater. It creates a snowball effect and gradually grows bigger by leaps and bounds. Here is some examples why
12
12 + (0.05 * 12) = 12.6 ($0.60 increase)
12.6 + (0.05 * 12.6) = 13.23 ($0.63 increase)
13.23 + (0.05 * 13.23) = 13.89 ($0.66 increase)
13.89 + (0.05 * 13.89) = 14.58 ($0.69 increase)

See the point. After years it will grow faster and faster.
