No - they are different - The SATA drive / connection is 3x faster than the ATA (also known as PATA).

The board in the link will not operate at the 3x faster speed as the hard drive is a SATA II drive. HOWEVER, it will still work with the board because SATA II is backward compatible with SATA I and is still faster (50% faster) than ATA100.

so some distance as sata controllers circulate, purely shop on with the onboard. once you think approximately that your asus board is a surprisingly contemporary one, i'm surprisingly particular that it is going to likely be as rapid as any controller you ought to purchase. by potential of sticking with the onboard controller, you chop back muddle interior the case and help with inner airflow and cooling. the only benefit that i will work out to including a card would be in case you planned on utilizing extra beneficial than the two or 3 tense drives that the board helps. so some distance as tense drives circulate, first look at rpm's (no longer something below 7200rpm), then look on the buffer (8mb or extra), then you rather would opt to look at potential. For one hundred greenbacks you may get a freaking huge tense force which would be genuine rapid. purely purchase a recognition variety, the terrific 2 obtainable are seagate and western digital. stable success!

A SATA is a Serial ATA and the ATA is a parallel or PATA. Instead of the wide ribbon cable it has a round thin cable. You have to have a different jack on the motherboard for a SATA drive.

according to what i saw at the new egg site, you should be able to use the hard drive with that motherboard. it has two sata ports. the hard drive should be backward compatable to the sata 1 standard

No, they are not the same thing, nor are they optimized for each other. To optimally connect these two devices, you should opt for a converter board that will optimize your data throughput. For more information, see the reference link below.

No, but sata is better, because it has serial drives which are faster, and better!
