feeder fish may have brought the ich into your tank. What kind of fish are you feeding?

I would hold off on the feeders because they can bring more nasties to your water. You can buy frozen food for them, or soft frozen food alternatives. If its an oscar or other large cichlid you can buy pellet food for them.

Feeder fish are massly bred and kept in cramped conditions. Its no wonder they are full of parasites. Hold off until your problem is under control and if you wish to try feeders again then maybe you can later.

FYI i have heard that using feeder goldfish are the worst. They are like JUNK FOOD for your fish, and carry lots of nasties. Rosy reds or other minnow feeders are better for them.

I'm not sure what you're asking exactly. Do you have goldfish or something that you are using to feed larger fish in a tank that has an Ich infection in it? If the goldfish or "feeder fish" don't show any signs of having the infection then go ahead and use them to feed the other fish. If you want to be safe you can treat both tanks just to be sure. If you are buying them from a store, you always take a chance of introducing a disease when you put a new fish into a tank whether they are feeder fish or not.

I would not feed them feeder fish while treating your tank. They are dirty fish and are not too good for your tank.

Also it's not really a good idea to feed your fish (your oscars, ect) feeder fish all the time. They need a well balanced diet.

I feed my oscars pellets, shrimp, and peas. They recieve live fish as a treat only on occasion since they really aren't that good for them.
And I never give them goldfish. They usually get guppies.

Ich occurs when fish are stressed. Yes it is possible to buy a fish already infected with ICH. Fish at pet stores recieve more stress then pet fish since they constantly have nets going in the tanks, kids tapping on the tanks ect.

However, your fish can also get it after coming home with you. The transition to the new tank or other more agressive fish in the tank may stress them out.

Also the manner in which you clean your tank also can conribute to stress.

If you are treating your tank with Ick then do not feed your fish feeder. Do you keep your feeders in another tank? There would be a small chance that if you put a feeder in the tank with Ick then the feeder might catch the Ick which if your fish eats it then you'll have a dead fishy

Of course you feed the fish. Treat the water with the ich meds and watch for any dead fish...take them out if they die and flush them. Don't add any new fish into that tank for awhile after you fix the problem. You sound like you have a P H problem.

Unless your fish are a species which eats live fish exclusively, you shouldn't feed feeder fish at all!The odds are very good that the feeder fish CAUSED your ich in the first place!

No. The feeder fish will keep contaminating the fish with ich.

though you should position in some more desirable small fish i'd not recommend it. If the tank seems empty i'd get some more desirable flora and a more advantageous piece of stone or driftwood to soak up some area, and likewise provide the fish some more desirable hiding places.

Yes, but feed small amounts until you see them eating with gusto again. They need food to heal infections just like people. Good Luck.
