You could pay up to $50 for a 1 x 6 mahogany board 10 foot long. I just bought some Trex (no texture) and it was about $27 for a 1 x 6 ten foot piece.
So cost alone shoud rule out mahogany for a deck and as someone has all ready said, it is a pretty soft wood.

There is a distributor that specializes in what is called Bridgetown Mahogany. Very dense and used for exterior decking projects. Most people use 5/4 x 6 and it comes in lengths of 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 ft lengths. It is more expensive than composite deckings such as Trex or TimberTech. Those run from $2.00 per LF to $3.25 per LF.

Mahogany is roughly the same cost as oak in most areas...However, I hope this is not for a outside deck...Mahogany is a soft wood and yet very beautiful when finished with just a poly finish it is not a type of wood for a deck.....If you have anymore questions on this you can E-Mail me at wood42ras@yahoo.com....hope this helps

I estimate $15-$18 per square foot for a properly installed deck using 8' support post. We use continuous post for in ground, ground to deck, deck to top of handrail. This makes a really strong handrail. The post is one pc. for all. Deck joists should not span more distance than the lumber used for joist. In other words a 2"x8" joist should span no more than 8', a 2" x10" no more than 10'. We usually install a center floor beam supported by shorter in ground 4" x4"s up between 2 treated boards usually 2" x10"s , this lets you use smaller joists since the span is cut in half. It also keeps deck from that cheap bouncing syndrome if you have several guest on the deck at once. This is standard wood decking - what we call 5/4 *five quarter. Trex and other composite decking will triple this price easily. Elevated decks such as yours - the difference is in the price of the longer deck posts and footings for posts, bracing . Also labor is more to work off ground this high. *Add 30% for this elevated deck. Other things such as railing design will affect price, as well as quality of workmanship.

depending on what you are doing with the wood? A small area would be pricey but dooable. If your looking for wood that is stand up to anything and expensive, try Teak. it will out last anything but plastic.
