I do believe humankind has been predicting the world's end since the beginning of time. I don't think any modern ruminations are any more exacting than those ruminations from the so-called prophets of the earlier eras. The interesting thing though about all of this rumination is that every time somebody new comes along with another theory, the theories are all based upon similar principles: self-destruction, return of our creator (however one imagines Him to be) and Mother Nature's defiance to mankind's imperfections.

Although the Mayans did predict the year 2012, their prediction may not be relevent to our Earth. Many of their calculations pertain to the Underworld or spiritual world. We can not be certain that they intened that that date to signify the end of the world that we know.
If however, they did intend it for our Earth, I will only be 24 years old. I have enjoyed my life immensly so far and feel prepared to die already. Funny, huh?

Know one knows for sure when the world is going to end. But the way I see it, the world ends all the time. 9-11, Hurricane Katrina, The Tsunami, are some of the bigger examples.

Not soon in our lives but I could see it happening in the next 1000 years. I think were becoming too advanced for our own good and that will eventually be the downfall of everything. Constant tinkering wth things that shouldn't be messed with. Too many nutjobs in general. Of course I could be insane

Your world is a big rock in the darkness of space, the moon controls the very tides of our oceans. All these things seem so very chaotic, and yet they press on towards balance. All the religious figure clowns of the world won't be making lessons out of us ever, so don't worry. You only have to fear war, disease, cosmic explosion's, black holes, white holes, a$$ holes, and un-balanced crazies who try and control what you think.

December 2012.
The Mayas have gotten every eclipse in the past 5000 years correct down to the hour. Why would the apocalypse be any different? : )
