The best all around singer (I'm assuming you mean pop music, i.e. not operatic) in my opinion is Freddie Mercury. He was able to sing in any range, any style, and had what was an almost unmatched stage presence.

I don't know if she's the best, but Norah Jones has an awesome voice. I also think that the lead singer from Alice in Chains had a great voice, too.

Chris Cornell has the best range of any singer I have ever heard, and he has the most powerful voice I have ever heard. I would choose John Lennon next followed by Robert Plant.
