It was built for about two years only - and it was the most expensive Mercedes model those days, plus the coupé models SEC were not very asked then.

i loved that car, used to have a 1990 560 SEC now ive got a 1994 S500 the 500 runs and looks better but it is rare probably because they arent mass produced if u find a low miled and cheap one GO FOR IT!

i have Mercedes S320 believe me it sucks i should take it every 2 months for a check and i pay over 5000$ every time

i think its the biggest engine in the sec for that chasis style. definately not a show car but a good highway driver.

Something is only rare if production is limited. It may be hard to find as people who have them keep them.
