Yeah, I can totally agree with you on this subject!! I mean, we use abbreviations in chat rooms, I don't see what the big difference when using abbreviations in here. And sometimes, when I have a particularly long answer that I am responding to, I will sometimes use abbreviations when writing, only because my hands start to cramp when I write a lot, so I just use abbreviations. It doesn't mean that the person using abbreviations cant spell, it just means that they would like to use a shorter version of typing so that their hands don't start to hurt, or that their train of thought doesn't go away. It also obviously means that BECAUSE we are using abbreviations, that in all likelihood, we DO know how to spell the word. But most people on Yahoo Answers feel like this forum is for grown-up people who should always spell the words out. I only use the short-hand version of abbreviation, not the whole thing. Some words I will spell out,and some I wont. Well, I know one thing, I don't have time. I like using abbreviations, and I'll keep on doing it too!

For one, it makes it more difficult to read. If it is difficult to read, chances are, it may be difficult for some to comprehend. Furthermore, most of us just get tired of trying to decipher slang. As a whole, it sounds plain stupid.
I particularly have a problem with this statement:
"yes us black, ghetto wateva u wanna call us people gpo to skool and just cuz we write in abrivieations dont meen... "
When did Black become synonymous with ghetto? The reason why you should write in correct English is so that you can practice. I have seen far more than a few spelling and grammatical errors in your post.
Take that how you want to.

Its a culture clash between the old and the young mobile text phone generation, having to press buttons on a mobile phone can be annoying then your trying to spell out the whole word.
Over time teenagers use shortcuts for there mobile mobile unfortunelly this has cross over into modern day English.
The older generation on the over hand don't really understand this, there days of being young (not all of them) are over and sometimes its hard to grasp new ideas.

I don't think that "critisize" and "abrivieations" are part of your "style"- they just indicate a general inability to function within normal society. If you only want people with single digit IQs to answer your questions then write however you want. But if you want educated, intelligent people like myself to respond, then you owe us the courtesy of writing in a manner that is comprehensible.

It's only easier to understand and it shows people that you actually took the time and effort to type out the words correctly. You can look through all my Q+A and you'll never find a single abbreviation except for basics like "gonna".

How are you going to be a contribution to society if you talk like a retard? Do you think there is no hope for people like yourself to ever be any better than you are now?
People try to correct you because it's the right thing to do, but if you don't listen, then prepare to be further ostracized by online communities and whoever you try to write to.

I realize that it's "kewl" or whatever and that it allows you to type faster, but it took me three times as long as it should have for me to decipher your gibberish.
Your language is of paramount importance in allowing you to communicate effectively with other people. Why intentionally put yourself at a disadvantage?
Also, when you get older and enter the real world don't think that any employers are going to let this crap fly.

Because you will need real English to make it in the adult world, and so you should know that sloppy English and intentionally bad English (because it's "cool" I suppose) is just making you seem low-class. If what you want is for people to know you are black, that's what the avatar is for. If what you want is for people to be confirmed in their opinion that black people are stupid, you are succeeding. If you want people to think you are intentionally isolating yourself from good jobs by your language and your attitude, you are succeeding in that, too.

its cool that you want to abbreviate words but learn to spell them correctly first so you can know youre abreviating them the right way...secondly not all black people are "ghetto" and you shouldnt characterize people in such a way that makes the whole race look so negative.

Abreviations, computerese, etc are fine. A certain number of typos also. But please take the time to at least try and spell correctly. I'm old school I'm afraid, both literally and figuratively, but I see it as another sign of the dumbing of American.
