Because they suck. And the AIFF is corrupt.
The only way Indians will play in a FIFA World Cup is to migrate to England (but then they'd be too busy becoming doctors).

India was eliminated in Stage 2 of Asian qualifying, finishing third to Japan in Group 3 (went 1-1-4, with 2 GF and 18 GA).

Believe it or not, India qualified for Brazil 1950 World Cup, but withdrew because they were not permitted to play barefeet by FIFA.

iam sorry 2 say dis but its very close 2 de truth, indians are very much sisies, they can't handle manly or phisically challenging sports, very reraly will u find an indian playing manly games, i like many things about indians bhangra, ladoo,piriyani, bollywood and ***** but is just dat they ****, they would loose 200 -0 if they try playing. a lightest tackle can sent an india out of match. but they have many other strengths. i once beat three india guys for a girl. an india gal i used to date. they ran like litle sisies.
maybe thats why they chose pasive resistance agaist colonization when other people opted for combat.

it's difficult trying to qualify as there are many teams in the Asia qualifying group, and only 4 teams can qualify. So only the best of Asia can represent the continent. India as a country has not reached the same levels as those which have qualified. Anyway, the main sports in India are hockey and cricket!

Because qualifing is not easy, even in Asia there are some extremely competetive teams and good ones as well.
