Although Brokeback Mountain is a beautiful film, I would have to go with Big Eden ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0212815/ ) as the better "love story." For younger audiences, maybe the old British film, "Beautiful Thing" (long before Queer As Folk.) And for laughs (romantic comedy) "The Trick." You can find all of these titles and a lot more at TLAvideo ( http://tlavideo.com/ ) go to their site an access the Gay and Lesbian section. it is one of the largest on line resources for DVDs, and has a good amount of older films as well as the newest releases. Have fun watching.

Though not a huge part of the plot, Dream For An Insomniac is the best I think. Worth watching.
Maybe not the best love story, but the movie But I'm a Cheerleader is too funny to miss

Brokeback Mountain is over rated. Try Breakfast on Pluto a very charming film that got swept away by BBM. A Beautiful Thing is a nice teen movie. Defying Gravity is a badly acted but good story. And Urbania is good too

Both my suggestions are love stories that just happen to involve gay characters:
BIG EDEN: a quirky love triangle develops against all odds in New Eden, Montana -- with Native Americans and gourmet food!
PARTING GLANCES: a story about the renewal of love, of unrequited love, and the wide variety of gay men and their lives (and has early film appearances by Steve Buscemi and Kathy Kinney -- Mimi from the Drew Carey Show).

This movie is about two girls who fall in love, and one is a popular girl and the other isn't. They come out to their families. Great movie.
