It depends on both your computer, and the server the website is transmitting from...

If you have a lot of security on your computer, it's going to take longer for your server to process the information streaming in from the website. You can go through internet options to change that. Also, if you're running a lot of processes at any given time, your computer is multi-tasking and may take use its CPU for a lot of other things in addition to your internet explorer. You can look at your settings and see which programs begin on start-up of your machine to cut down on un-needed processes. The same things apply for the transmitting server... If they have a lot of security to muck through, or a lot of people connecting to the server it's going to take a while for the data packets to finally make it back to your computer. A big contributer is also the size of the web-site... If it's huge (lots of images and other stuff to make it more attractive... or more annoying) it's going to take a while for your computer to get everything it needs to run the site. You can fix that by getting a faster connection with more bandwidth and less latency. That should speed everything internet wise up. :)

If a webpage has many graphics (images) on it, it will take longer to load. If you have only a dial-up connection, and need to use these type of sites, I suggest you upgrade to a high-speed (ADSL) or faster connection.
Also, some servers do not have the pure guts to push out the data as well as others do.

It just depends on the content of the site. Some sites have various images, which they upload onto their site as BMPs rather than JPEGs. JPEGs help condense the pictures immensely, which makes it load much faster. Also, if the site has music or videos or other types of media going on, the site will take significantly longer to load.

The ones that load quickly, is usually, due to a cookie on your computer. The ones that load slow is due to no cookie or graphics that take time to load.

Sometimes this slowness can be caused by your external modem. You can speed things up by turning off the power and then restarting it.

Some have more content such as images. Also it is possible for the site to make sure all images load b4 the page is displayed.

or..... the server the sites are hosted on is slow.

Mostly it has to do with the content on their site and the number and size of their pictures and other files and also all the site it must travel through.
