Well all needles are sterile when you get them. They don't sell any unsterilized needles that I have heard of. I mean they can't just take one from the druggie down the street.... Now imagine that you used the same needle as with the last guy that you executed... what happens if he was HIV positive and you stuck yourself accidentily while attempting to find a good vein?
Not to mention there are times when evidence is brought forward showing that the prisoner is not guilty so they have to administer a antedote and wouldn't that suck if he wasn't guilty but died from a blood infection or HIV due to a bad needle?

You got me. Maybe it's because the executioner is feeling guilt, kinda like pontius pilot washing his hands when he didn't want to be a party to the nonsense, but it didn't help. He was there. He gave the order. Of course the italian-levites who ceasar appointed came up with the idea, and the centurions actually carried it out, so I'd say Italy murdered their patsy. Did they sterilize the cross? And why do people not yield when getting on the freeway? Do they really expect a person driving 65 to slow down for them as they start from 10 or 20 mph? HMMMMMMMMMMMM.

They use a sterile needle more for their (the person performing the lethal injection) protection not the inmate. Imagine they got some HIV infected needle and pricked himself by accident.

Simply the procedure for injections should be constant and predictable and routine, irregardless of the content of the injection.
The last thing I want my doctor to be confused about is in which cabinet does he grab the needles for my injection, the clean ones or the 'dirty' ones.

Think about this, your strapped to the gurney, and the needles are in, and all of a sudden, they get 'the call'...It is no longer "safe" to kill some one with that method, so, they unstrap you and in a few years you die of some disease because they didnt get a clean needle, and the worst part of it, is that they find out through DNA test results, that YOUR INNOCENT!!
The tragedy of it all, eh?
I wish you well..

I think it's to create the illusion that its a medical procedure, so the person that inserts the needle can think they're just doing their job, instead of murdering someone.

Because it would seem barbaric to kill a citizen with a dirty needle. By using a sterile needle, it shows that we have a humanitarian government.

It's all about dignity. The prisoners deserve at least that much dignity.
