Sacramento County is 975 sq miles in area and has a little over a million people.

The City of Sacramento, CA (capital of California, but probably only about the 6 or 7th largest city in the state) is probably about 400,000 people

I think Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, and probably Long Beach are bigger than Sacramento (in population).

It's not that big. It's really spread out with rural areas all around it, but the actual city, downtown is not very large. I'd say about the same size as Portland.

Population wise,it is:454,330 as of 2004.
Go to http://factfinder.census.gov/

That is the city population,the county is over 1,300,000.
