Its not. Unless of couse you are refering to the northern hemisphere winter and summer then obviously when its winter in the northern hemisphere its summer in Brisbane.
Summer in Brisbane is hot and humid and winter is cool and dry with occasional cold westerlies. Winter is the best time of year to visit Brisbane. The weather is clear and sunny most days.

The 23.5 degree tilt on the Earth's axis can be blamed for this. Because of this tilt, during USA's summer, the northern hemisphere recieves more heat and is therefore warmer. The south, however, is tilted away, recieves less heat and therefore is colder. During USA's winter, the opposite happens. The southern end is tilted towards the sun, so it is warmer and the northern end is tilted away, so it is colder.

Because of the Earth's axis being tilted. It causes different seasons in the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere. For instance, when we're all sitting around the fireplace drinking hot cocoa, and waiting for Santa, they're laying next to the air conditioner and wishing it was cooler.

Effect of sun angle on climate
--------------------------------------
The angle at which sunlight strikes the earth, which varies by location, time of day, and season, is an important factor in the amount of heat energy received at any location on the globe. Seasonal change in the angle of sunlight, caused by the tilt of the earth's axis, is the basic mechanism that results in warmer weather in summer than in winter
The angle of sunlight striking the earth in the Northern and Southern hemispheres when the earth's northern axis is tilted away from the sun, when it is winter in the north and summer in the south.

Because they are in the southern hemisphere. Since the seasons are caused by the tilt of the Earth, when we in the northern hemisphere have our winter we recieve less direct rays from the sun. In the southern hemisphere, they are recieving more direct rays from the sun, causing it to be warmer there.

it's hot during their summer, november-march. the summer for the southern hemisphere is the winter of the northern hemoshpere, and vice versa. it's because of the tilt of the earth and the plane of the eliptic, and ammount of subsolar radiation recived during varoius times of the year.
