I have the driver disk that came with the laptop originally and also the xp pro disk although it might not be the original one . I had a trojan that messed things up so badly that I just need to start all over with a clean drive, do I need another program to make sure it is wiped totally clean?
Please advise as a step 1 step2 step 3 as I am not that computer savy.
thanks.

To format your harddrive you will need to get a recovery disc or a Windows CD.
No boot disc is necessary unless you are trying to install Windows 95.
The recovery disc will usually come with your computer, if you dont have one, you will need to call your computer manufacturing company and order one.
The recovery disc and the windows CD will partition your harddrive and it will wipe out your memory and start from fresh.

Go to my computer, right click the harddrive, and click format. However, you will definitley need another program to install or your computer will just keep starting over and over when yout turn it on after erasing the old program. if you can you should go buy a new operating system before yopu do anything else. Or go to the Microsoft website and get some info. Answer #1 for your question is the best thing, IF you have the xp boot disk.

You need to wipe the hard drive first for the best results, go to
download.com and download" Killdisk " that will wipe the drive and
it will be like starting with a new drive, just formating the drive doesn't get rid of everything.
