Because usually father-in-laws don't want to be bothered.
Mother-in-laws usually try to make things better, ie...they get in the way. It's hard to make a lot of jokes about someone who minds there own business.

Just kidding....i used to love my mother in law. Although my ex and i are divorced, i still talk to her once in a while.....Truly a magnificant woman.
